Conservative Leadership for League City’s Future

ISSUES I WANT TO ADDRESS

Development

I support development, commercial and residential, that is good for the City and good for the citizens. So…what does that mean? For years we have recognized that roof-top development with limited neighborhood commercial does not enhance our tax base. If we subsidize or encourage this type of growth the situation worsens. When you subtract the cost of city services, and the cost of subsidies, and the cost of expanding infrastructure, from the generated tax revenues…often we break even at best. That’s bad.

Large scale residential expansion also has a negative impact on the school districts and their ability to accurately plan for expansion. As they unveil plans for more facilities, we realize that those plans inevitably require increases in City tax rates as we strive to accommodate them with upgrades to utilities, roadways, and services. That’s bad as well.

League City has to attract quality commercial interests if we are to break the current cycle. Commercial growth enhances the tax base without the negatives and it reduces the tax burden that now falls on property owners. That’s good.

    I support the following:

  • Enforcement of  a moratorium on the creation or expansion of M.U.D. s
  • Limiting T.I.R.Z.s to applications that favor commercial growth.
  • A redoubling of our efforts to attract commercial interests with competitive incentive packages.
  • Insuring that, without exception, all future residential development conforms to the Master Plan and the long range plans of the school districts.
  • Investment in, and expansion of, our infrastructure that encourages commercial growth.
  • Investment in projects such as the revitalization of main street and historic old- town that will attract business interests that compliment our vision.

With responsible growth League City can set the standard for Galveston County. We can have reduced taxes and a quality of life that is uncompromised.
